Beauty Cosmetics
The generic name of cosmetics is given to those substances which enhance the odor or appearance of one’s body. In this large category are included skin-care lotions, creams, perfumes, powders, lipsticks, nail polish, make-up, hair colors, colored contact lenses, permanent waves, bath salts, hair gels and sprays, deodorants, baby products, hand sanitizer, bubble baths or bath oils, butters and so many others. The type of cosmetics which are used to alter one’s appearance by the means of color is called make-up.
On the cosmetics manufacturing market there are a few multination corporations that dominate it. Their origins can be tracked at the beginning of the 20th century. Deriving from that, there are a lot of businesses specialized in distributing and selling cosmetics.
Skin Care Products
Skin care products are also part of the cosmetic category of products. This type of cosmetics include moisturizing face and body creams or lotions which vary depending on the skin type, sunscreens for the skin protection against bad UV, skin lighteners to make the skin look whiter, tanning oils to make the skin look brownish and also products intended to treat or hide different skin imperfections such as wrinkles, acne, under eyes dark circles and so on.
Natural and organic ingredients
Despite the regulations regarding cosmetic products, there are still many which contain ingredients possibly harmful for health. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cannot apply its regulations to cosmetic products before their release on the market, except for the color additives used to manufacture those products. Action can be taken against a certain product after it was found to have violated the Federal Act for Food, Drug and Cosmetics or the Act for Fair Labeling and Packaging. Every season a wide range of products is released and it is almost impossible to keep track with all and verify the conformity of each item. Among the ingredients used in the cosmetic products are even carcinogenic contaminants like 1.4 – dioxane. There are a lot of companies which started producing organic and natural products which contain plant and mineral ingredients obtained from organic agriculture. However, a genuine organic product should be labeled with “USDA Organic”.
